n.; pl. -ia [Gr. skolos, pointed object; L. palus, stake]
(ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
A variously shaped cup or cone with longitudinal ridges and a central filament connecting with the process of a central nerve cell; may have a terminal button; sensory cell of the scolopidium; scolops; cuticular sheath; corpus scolopale.
